Chinese Company Directories

The China Trade Directory is a free, well-organized site that can be searched by company or product name. China Commodity Net is run by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and covers more than 650,000 companies and over 2 million products searchable by key word. ChinaSite offers quite a bit of company information but the site is a bit confusing and not easily searched. The Chinese Business Directory is a CD Rom databases that you must purchase although some contact information on the companies may be found for free on the site.

CHINESE NEWS SITES

The following news sites are fairly comprehensive. All of them are searchable although the depth and availability of archives vary. The most efficient way to search news archives internationally or otherwise is of course a commercial system where you can search multiple journals simultaneously with much deeper archives.

CHINESE STATISTICS

Information from the China Statistical Data site is in English and is extracted from National Bureau of Statistics. The Databank for China Studies is from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is good on historical datasets and is fee based. China Statistical Yearbook is privately compiled, based on census bureau data and is offered as a book and CD ROM. The site offers other books, directories and CD ROMs to purchase on companies and industries. For provincial and city statistics, every province and major city will have its own statistical department and statistical yearbooks compiled in English.
