Pearls of Wisdom - The Invisible Web
WELCOME to the December 2003 edition of The Pearls of Wisdom,
our monthly review of the best research resources we've come across.
This month we'll focus on the Invisible Web. The Invisible Web sounds
mysterious but you probably visit it regularly without even realizing
it.It's simply the portion of the web not accessible through search
engines. PDF documents used to be part of the Invisible Web when search
engines were unable to crawl that type of file.
Now the Invisible Web consists of pages that are:
In databases beyond a search interface,
Dynamic or require user input,
Password protected,
Involved with real time data that changes quickly,
Coded off limits (a standard respected by most search engines)
Disconnected pages that have no link to or from them.
The following tools for the Invisible Web will expand the boundaries of
the information you can access as well as enhance your research.
